Lea's Toybox is named after Lea Elsesser. Being a child of poverty, Aunt Lea never knew what it was like to get a new toy on christmas. Her clothes were home made from bleached flour sacks and birthdays were not celebrated in her house. Though she never had children of her own, she didn't want any other children to experience this kind of childhood.
Lea's Toybox helps low income families in Saginaw and the surrounding area by providing christmas gifts as well as birthday cakes and presents for those very special days.
Understanding the importance of a good education, the toybox also provides paper, pencils and other items kids need to get a good start on the school year.
For a good start in life, babies special needs. The baby pantry, part of Lea's Toybox, provides gently used clothing, diapers, lotions, powders, and where available car seats, walkers, strollers and other items for those that can not afford these items. Our local sewing circle gathers to make knitted, crocheted, quilted and sewn items for newborns as well. |
